Penguin Book- Talking turkeys- Thumbnails

Thumbnails

The first top left thumbnail is inspired by one of the illustrations in the book. This is illustration is next to the poem according to my mood and this illustration is the Joker playing card. This was just a quick thumbnail to start to inspiring some ideas. I don't think this is the best thumbnail design but its okay.

The next thumbnail is an improvement on the last but it is quite simplistic but it does get to the point. It explains the title in the illustration. However I just think going forward I can make this more interesting with some more illustrations in the background.

This next illustration is inspired by the poem Heroes. This poem was one of my favourites and I got inspired to draw a thumbnail of it. I really liked how this thumbnail turned out because of how close up it was on the turkey. It also inspired me to draw another thumbnail design later on.

The 4th thumbnail I designed is inspired by the poem called Be Kind To Turkeys This Christmas. It basically explains not to eat them with your Christmas dinner. So, I thought I could make this thumbnail more humorous and have the turkey sitting on the plate looking confused wearing a Santa hat. I like this idea however, I don't think it was the best idea I have done.

The last thumbnail on this page is one of my favourites. This whole book is written to teach children to be nicer to people, animals and the environment. So, I think having a turkey flying with an olive branch in its mouth is paying tribute a dove flying being a sign of peace. I think this is a clever idea but could have a few more improvements to be made. This is the one thumbnail which incorporates the back of the book cover with the front and its a really successful experiment.

These are some extra thumbnail designs. For the first design  I wanted to make the thumbnail look hectic and filed with turkeys. I also added different aspects of the poems on the turkeys. I added a speech bubble coming from the mouths of the turkeys however, I hate the look of the speech bubble so I don't think I will use that again in further design ideas.

The next thumbnail I did was just playing with the idea of using different aspects of the poems in the text. I think its a good idea but not executed very well in this illustration. So I might carry on experimenting with it but I'm not sure if it will improve much.
