Briefcase- Propostion

Image
Background  For my project I will be bridging the gap between the ageing community and the youth. I will do this by- addressing the differences between the two age groups and allowing them to communicate and apply and teach skills that they have obtained through their contrasting experiences. This will help both groups thrive and become aware of issues they never thought about. While doing this I will encourage both groups to think differently about sustainability and how to contribute to their society.  Client Brief I will be applying my knowledge of sustainability to help my client to spread awareness of ways we can help create change. My client wants me to create an integrated print and video campaign that addresses an issue related to the ageing society.  What is the problem this creative work is trying to solve?  The problem I am trying to solve is food waste and over consumption of unhealthy foods. I will fix this by connecting the older and younger gener...

Penguin Book- Illustrators Who Inspire Me and Developed ideas

Image
Illustrators who inspire me  Rob Biddulph  What inspires me about Biddulp's work is the abstract quality and fun nature in each piece he does. I also love how he creates texture in this piece with the fur. He perfectly mixes abstract with realistic textures. His use of shading always adds a finish quality to his work too. Developing my ideas further I will use more abstract looking turkeys in my ideas.  In this book cover design the use of bright colours and interesting typography really draws the audience in. The yellow against the black is very eye-catching and the fun characters positioned around the book cover create a chaotic nature to his work. In this drawing I love that the main focus is on the trees in the background the bright green and yellows used create dimension while also being impactful on the audience. Again, he hides little characters throughout the scenery which is very fun for the children to spot and focuses their attention.  Sandie Sonke IThis i...

Briefcase- Survey

Image
Link to my google forms    https://forms.gle/VvvxkUMWHbpMjuEb6 Here are some questions I included and the results; How old are you?  When I sent out this survey, I was surprised by how many people completed it and how in depth they answered some of these questions. 2/3 of the people who completed this survey range from 35-55. Although I would have liked a lot more people in the 65+ age group I think that having 45-55 shows a middle ground between the young and old generation. I think that how the people in the 45-55 age group have answered shows that they took a lot of inspiration from their parents when it came to activities such as cooking and gardening.   How often do you think about where your food comes from? & How often do you eat processed food? How often do you consider food waste? & Do you actively take steps to avoid wasting food? It's interesting to me that 71.9% of people only occasionally think about where their food comes from. Its shocking...

Penguin Book- Typography

Image
Typography experimentation  1. This first idea is my own handwriting but with an ink pen brush on procreate. I think this typography is fun and energetic for this style of book.  I like when typography shapes itself around the illustration on the book. This is because I think it has a playful impact on the cover.  2.  This typography is very similar to the previous one. It is my handwriting and it is shaped around the turkeys head. It is simple but effective and the pencil brush I used is a nice because it looks like a children's written it. It's an effective font for the target market. Going forward I would need to refine it more.  Here's a couple different fonts I could use for Zephaniah's name. Both fit the theme, however the second is more similar to the style of typography my "Talking Turkeys" are in. I like how one word is in black and the other is in white. This is because I think it makes them link to the other typography and is something a bit differe...

Penguin Book- More development for talking turkeys

Adding a back cover for my thumbnails  My original 10 cover designs only used the front cover to create ideas so I thought I would develop them moving forward. I like the simplicity of the first cover design however I don't think it expressed what's inside the book. I think to improve this design I could add a couple of illustrations in the background.  The second idea doesn't look incredibly well done. But I wanted the background for this book to be made up of illustrations that hint at a couple of the poems in the book. But I would want them to not have full opacity.  The third idea is more of a failed experiment. I tried to follow through with the idea of using a turkey flying with an olive branch, however, I don't think it is successful at all.  I think that both of these ideas are very fun and exciting but what I love most about the first thumbnail is the fact that the cover looks very chaotic. I think this reflects some of the ways Zephaniah writes his po...
