Penguin Book- Talking Turkey- Colour development
In this developed idea I wanted to paint to the turkey in watercolour first and then go over it with coloured pencils. This idea is inspired by the symbolism of a dove holding an olive branch. Unfortunately I don't think this is very clear and maybe I could come up with a better idea for what the turkey holds in its mouth. I love the colours used and think the design is simple but still unique.

I like this idea because the turkey is looking straight at the person holding the book. The crown is a nice touch too and I love the colour scheme I chose for the turkey. It's bright and fun for kids to look at. I think that when I add background it'll make the turkey stand out more.
This turkey is very similar to the last one but the thing I like the most about this turkey is how I have drawn the feather and the medals. I tried to emulate the medals a Jamaican soldier would have, this is to link back to Zephaniah's roots and to subtly link his background to his art.
I really like how this experiment turned out. I think the use of feather and the brights colours are really effective. The texture I have added with coloured pencil adds to the whole illustration. I will take this design further and develop a thumbnail surrounding it.
This turkey was fun to draw, however, I think the paint or the pencils haven't been blended well and it has left me with a very uneven tone throughout. I love the idea of the feathers in this drawing but I think they could be developed more.
To develop my idea of my last experiment I decided to go digitally. I still think this idea looks a bit strange when finished. But I can imagine when I get the right tones and colours to use on my iPad and maybe crop it a bit more it could look really effective.
